March 7, 2025This is Stavroulis, and his story—or rather, his battle—began many months ago.
On September 14th, our volunteer found him in a colony she cares for, walking on three legs while his fourth leg dangled and moved uncontrollably. He slowly approached her, with effort but great dignity, asking for nothing more than some affection and a treat!
How could he possibly survive the dangers of cars, other animals, and the harsh realities of the streets? There was no second thought—Stavroulis was placed in a carrier, and thus began his long and demanding road to recovery, filled with worry, emotional ups and downs, effort, and care.
Today, Stavroulis stands before us whole and victorious in the battle he fought! But his journey was not easy. He underwent major surgeries, battled three severe infections, took numerous antibiotics and medications, and made frequent (and very reluctant) trips to the vet for X-rays and wound care. Wearing a protective collar for five whole months with dignity and no complaints is no small feat.
Then, after what felt like an eternity of patience, the long-awaited day finally arrived—the last X-ray confirmed what we had all hoped for: Stavroulis had won, and his leg was saved!
Stavroulis carries a strong name, just like his own strong spirit. He is a brave, resilient cat with incredible patience and courage.
He is friendly, affectionate, and loves cuddles—offering kisses and head bumps as signs of love. However, he needs a little time to trust, as well as gentle, calm, and respectful handling. He has been through so much. But once he trusts, he becomes the most loyal companion, thriving in human company.
We will never know how long he endured with his leg broken and hanging or how it happened. But his story is yet another reminder that animals are not invisible—they have value, significance, and are a part of our lives, just as we are part of theirs. For every single animal, humans should fight with love, bravery, teamwork, responsibility, empathy, patience, and faith in the good.
Stavroulis is about 4 years old, tested negative for infectious diseases, neutered, and fully vaccinated. He is now looking for his forever home.
